New Report from RISE

RISE has published a new report on the High Level Workshop on Ethical and Policy Implications of Global Mobility and Security which was held in Brussels on 25th‐26th March 2010. The report presents and summarises speaker and participant workshop discussions and contributions.

The workshop, chaired by Prof. Margit Sutrop, was organised by the Centre for Ethics, University of Tartu in the cooperation with the RISE project coordinator, Prof. Emilio Mordini, with the help of Mr Rene von Schomberg and his team at the European Commission. The event featured several prominent speakers including Mr Siim Kallas, Vice‐President of the European Commission and Transport Commissioner, Mr Jaak Aaviksoo, Estonian Minister of Defence, Mr Margaritis Schinas, Principal Advisor at the Bureau of European Policy Advisors, and Mr Peter Hustinx, European Data Protection Supervisor.

During the workshop, Prof. Emilio Mordini officially presented a working document entitled “Whole Body Imaging Technology in European Airports: the Ethical and Policy Context” to the Vice President of the European Commission and Transport Commissioner, Mr Siim Kallas.

With 64 participants from 20 different countries, the workshop brought together different stakeholders: EU institutions, government, public sector units, academia, industry sectors, independent non-profit interest groups, and think-tanks.
